Buddy Holly

In 1955, after graduating from high school, Holley decided to pursue a full-time career in music. He signed up with Decca Records in February 1956, but was unhappy with the outcome. He contaacted producer Norman Petty and recorded That'll Be the Day. Petty became Holly's manager and sent the record to Brunswick Records. Petty and Holly later learned that Brunswick was a subsidiary of Decca.

That'll Be the Day, was credited the Crickets, and they continued to release records under the Brunswick label, while recordings under Holly's own name were released on another subsidiary label, Coral Records.

In 1957, Crickets released a 2nd Top 10 hit; Oh Boy!, while Holly released Words of Love, Rock Around with Ollie Vee, and Peggy Sue on Coral Records.Peggy Sue peaked at no. 3 on Billboard Hot 100.
