Billboard is the leading weekly American music magazine, founded way back in 1894. In 1936, Billboard magazine published its first music hit parade and four years later, the first music Popularity Chart was calculated.
Since 1958, Billboard has published the Hot 100. The chart is frequently used as the standard measure for ranking songs in the United States. If not stated otherwise, Billboard is used when referring to U.S. chart positions on Ultimate 60s.
The Billboard Hot 100 combines single sales and radio airplay, and as of 2005 it also includes paid digital downloads from digital music stores.
A- and-B-sides charted separately from 1958 and onward (with the initiation of the Hot 100 in 1958). But starting with the Hot 100 chart for the week ending November 29, 1969, this rule was altered. If both sides of a record received significant airplay, they were listed together.
The "Billboard 200" survey is the corresponding chart for album sales.
